Privately sponsored by the museum harbor Oevelgönne e.V., an association for the preservation of historic watercraft, it is the oldest German museum harbor, after which many museums and traditional ship harbors on the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts were founded. All historic craft are currently in working order.
